l live in a fairly small town but we have a serious problem with stray, chi- chi abused, and unwanted dogs. l really wanna do something about it and l have Registered User even discussed it with our police department but they do not have the Joined: Wednesday, 21st of April 2010, 10:33:34 funding to help. Right now the officers pick up a dog they recieve a Posts: 1216 complaint on and put them in a kennel in a small metal shed. Its freezing Viewed 4202 times in the winter and really hot in the summer. If no one claims them, they go
to another shelter that is over an hour away. The police officers should be
taking care of their regular duties not having to take care of dogs. Any
information about the regulations, grant info, or whatever would be great.

First you need to get an organization together of like minded Giggle Bunny people. Try to include ur animal control person as a part of the Registered User organization. A lawyer member would be a plus too. Write ur constitution Joined: Wednesday, 2nd of June 2010, 15:36:55 & bylaws & submit them to ur state as a non-profit organization. Once Posts: 485 that is done apply for the 501 (3) (c) (I think) status from the IRS. Viewed 18764 times This now makes a true non-profit. Fund raise, educate fund raise educate,
fund raise some more. Take to ur city or county about some available land
(preferably free or close to it). Make sure that it is zoned for an
animal shelter. Fund raise, educate, fund raise educate, some more. Try
to get new members especially those that might volunteer some of their
time. If they have experience in the building trades, kiss up to them.
Talk to the bankers if needed for loans. Write grants. If you have a
member that can write grants even better. Fund raise, educate, fund raise
,educate, fund raise some more. Draw up plans for a modest building. Tour
several kennels, animal shelters, veterinary hospitals, & other animal
facilities. Write down what you like about them & what you would change.
Ask the staff of these facilities also what they like & what they don't
like. The staff knows as they work there. Place ur plans everywhere
during ur fund raising. Try to get some of the more wealthy members of
the community to donate. Offer to name a kennel or even a wing after them
depending on the amount of their donation. Talk to their wealthy friends
also. Finally once you have all the money together start building. Again
keep fund raising & educating throughout the whole process. During the
whole course of this try not to become fanatical. Keep in mind that some
of ur best donors will be animal people including breeders. If you have
an ''agenda'' against breeders, you might have a difficult time raising
the needed funds to get ur shelter built & to keep it running after it has
been built. Your education needs to be on animal welfare, not animal
rights. Believe me there is a difference. Good luck.

I don't have any knowledgs on how to start a rescue MZ.Gigglez center/shelter. Registered User The place to start may be getting a hold of some small, private shelters & Joined: Wednesday, 28th of April 2010, 18:48:31 ''picking their brains'' Posts: 1637 so to speak. Viewed 4013 times You can probably even find & contact them on the internet.
Explain to them what it is you're wanting to do to help with the stray
animals in ur area & ask for their advice, opinion & knowledge.
I know that there are a couple smaller rural shelters in my area.
One is called Animal Protection & Education.
I give you a huge amount of praise for wanting to help all of the homeless
dogs in ur area.
Good luck in ur endeavors & I hope you are successful.

form a charity if you want to accept donations & do not have the funds to
start on ur own.
then do fund raising.. garage sales.. etc.
then find a cheap building or start in ur own home/basement..
find out what the legal number of animals you can have in a home is.. if
necessary move & get a business licence for a KENNEL.. so you can have
more animals.
the Number one thing you need to do is encourage spaying & neutering -
work with town hall to get dog licenses.. have them cheaper if the pets
are spayed or neutered..
if you are willing to act as a dog pound.then maybe the city will pay you
for boarding the strays. anyhow.. read the link to make sure you are
thinking in the right direction - e-mail me anytime if you want more
info.. I am watching LOST now.. & its commerciall

You would probably have better luck getting in contact with the Buffy SPCA, and asking them for help. I am sure they will be interested to hear Registered User about the current ''procedures'' of throwing the dogs into a shed!
